Team JDE showing dance skills this weekend

March 8, 2007 - Two evenings of dance are coming to Marysville this weekend at the fourth annual Dancer's Mosaic, scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Marysville Community Auditorium.

The Dancer's Mosaic is a “conglomerate of different types of dance routines,” said Jayne Silveira, vice president of the Jacque's Dance Expressions Booster Club. “The kids in Team JDE dance on the competitive level, and (the Dancer's Mosaic) is a showcase of the dances we take to competition. This is not a dance recital.”

The dancers featured in the Mosaic perform in competitions all over the west, from Sacramento and the Bay Area to Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. The dance teams will travel to Los Angeles this year to compete.

“These kids dance a minimum of five days a week, for anywhere from two to six hours a day,” Silveira said. “It's very rigorous training, and the competitions are just as competitve as any sport out there.”

Other teams competing come from all over the United States - including New York and Texas - and outside the country - such as a Canadian team that Team JDE competed against three years ago in Las Vegas.

The competition involves a wide variety of dances that members of Team JDE will perform this weekend.

“Some are more lyrical and expressive, some are jazz-based and some are almost ballet,” Silveira said. There are also hip-hop routines and a dance performed in the recent production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”

“There's something for everyone to enjoy,” Silveira said.
